biog - Evie Demetriou

Evie Demetriou was born in 1978 in Limassol, Cyprus. She has studied dance at the Laban Centre, London and at the Limon Institute, New York with the Danceweb Scholarship Program 2004.

She was the selected dance artist to represent Cyprus at the Biennale for Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean which was held in May ’08 in Bari, Italy with the piece Inside.

In 2004 she formed En drasi Dance Group with Emily Papaloizou.

Her choreographies include the duet Give me not (2008), the solo work Let it come Let it go (2007) performed around Cyprus and Germany (TANZherbst festival), the multimedia performance bridge (2006), and the videodances Pallas (2005) and Sedimentation Experiment (2006) which were screened in international film festivals and exhibitions (Dance Screen Brighton 2005 - UK, Lincoln Centre Library - New York, 2006, Videodance ’05 Thesalloniki International Film Festival - Greece, Pixeldance Festival 2006 - Greece, IDN Festival Mercat de Les Flors - Barcelona, Spain 2006, Screens telling stories Exhibition - Patra, European Capital, Greece 2006, ΙΜΖ Dance Screen 2006).

En drasi Dance Group was founded in 2004 by Evie Demetriou and Emily Papaloizou. The company is committed in producing physical dance performances and developing the medium of dance through incorporating other artistic media, as well as working with professional artists from different disciplines such as video artists, animators and musicians to consolidate the company's multimedia approach. Productions of the company are performed in Cyprus, whilst the company has also been invited to perform abroad. Recent work of the company was shown in Spain, Italy, Greece, Germany and the UK. En drasi is supported by the Cyprus Ministry of Education and Culture and is a founding member of Dance House Lemesos.

Choreographer Evie Demetriou meets the multimedia artist Giorgos Sisamos once again to continue their research on movement and multimedia art. Through experimentation they investigate how the spontaneous communication of the two arts can express their inner reality.
